Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has announced millions in road funding for the electorate.

Road users may notice some extra construction across the Cootamundra electorate, with vital safety upgrades being delivered the through Round Two of the Towards Zero: Safer Roads Program.

Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, welcomed the improvements being made by Transport for New South Wales, and marked the end of Rural Road Safety Month, led by the Australian Road Safety Foundation“Sadly two-thirds of all road fatalities occur on our regional roads. The impact of road trauma in regional areas is immeasurable, with close-knit ties in small regional towns felt right across the community,” Ms Cooke said.

“As someone who travels on our regional roads every single day, I know how important it is for residents and businesses to have access to sound road infrastructure.”

Projects across the region receiving upgrades through the program include:

  • $18,820,000 – Road safety barrier and delineation improvements on Lachlan Valley Way, Cowra.

  • $1,500,000 – Safety improvements on the Hume Highway between Mittagong and Albury.

  • $400,000 – Safety improvements on the Newell Highway between Tocumwal and West Wyalong.

The Towards Zero: Safer Roads Program, is part of the 2026 Road Safety Action Plan, aiming to reach zero deaths on the NSW road network. Ms Cooke said it was one part of a crucial commitment from residents and government to invest in infrastructure and save lives on our roads.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

We all have the power to make safe choices, especially when we drive such long distances. Your actions can make a significant difference in ensuring road safety,” Ms Cooke said.

The Towards Zero Safer Roads Program Round 2 covering FY24/25 - FY26/27 makes available $70 million to councils across NSW.
