The Cowra Musical and Dramatic Society (M&D) is set to return to the stage at Billimari Hall later this month with final rehearsals underway for a three-show run of the classic 1990s British TV comedy series Absolutely Fabulous.

Created and written by Jennifer Saunders, Absolutely Fabulous focusses on the madcap lives of Edina (Eddie) Monsoon, a heavy drinking PR mogul who spends her time failing to lose weight and chasing bizarre fads in a desperate attempt to stay young and “hip”. Edina’s best friend is ex-model and magazine fashion director Patsy Stone, whose alcohol consumption and outlandish behaviour far eclipse Edina’s. Edina relies upon the support of her daughter Saffron (Saffy), a student and aspiring writer whose constant care of her immature mother has left her a bitter cynic.

Absolutely Fabulous originally aired on BBC TV from 1990 to 1995 and has subsequently been revived on several occasions, culminating in a movie, released in 2016. Director Lawrance Ryan said that the M&D is delighted to be presenting two episodes from the shows original TV series.

“This is one of the most fast paced shows that the M&D has ever produced”, Lawrance said. “It just runs at a cracking pace with a string of oneliners and situations that defy logic and good taste but are extremely funny”. ‘We had a trial run of a lunch hour theatre performance of one episode during the recent Seniors Festival, and you could only describe the audience reaction as being absolutely fabulous.

M&D stalwarts Robyn Ryan and Sheryl Ann Pulling will be playing the pivotal rolls of Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone, ably supported by Tasha Bellamy as the long-suffering Saffy.

They will be joined on stage by Kerrie Bailey, Jenny Friend, Lawrance Ryan and newcomer Sumara Meers, in the role of Edina’s devoted but totally inefficient personal assistant Bubble.

Absolutely Fabulous will be performed at Billimari Hall on Friday, 25 April and Saturday, 26 April at 7.00pm - with a boxed dinner and sweets included in the ticket price. Tea and coffee will be provided with bar service available courtesy of Rosnay Organic Wines.

On Sunday, 27 April the show starts at 2:00pm – with complimentary afternoon tea at intermission.

Tickets for the evening shows are $45 for adults and $35 concession. Tickets for the matinees are $35 for adults and $30 concession.
