“Barbering Biker” To Trim “Local Legend” At Railway Hotel
Australia’s own “Barbering Biker”, Chris Keeble, will be riding into Cowra’s Railway Hotel on Sunday May 30 to give a trim to a “local legend” selected by the Hotel, and she is asking locals to get behind her entertaining initiative.
The “Barbering Biker” initiative is all about “paying it forward” for local people in regional towns that deserve a free cut, according to Chris, who launched it last year when she lost most of her theatre work in Sydney due to COVID-19 restrictions.
She visits pubs in country towns when giving the free cuts, and finds out who she’s giving a trim at random when she arrives. She will then take them away for the trim, and then come back out in front of the patrons at the pub and do a “big reveal”. The event is filmed, and the video uploaded to multimedia platforms.
Chris said she decided to create the initiative after taking up work as a hairdresser in aged care last year, following the loss of her work on stage.
“The idea of joining my passion of motorbike adventure and my old trade [hair dressing]
made sense, and the timing was right. There’s no place like Australia to explore,” she said.
Having appeared on Channel Nine’s Today Show, as well as build-ing a solid social media following, Chris said she was contacted by The Railway Hotel to come to Cowra, and the Railway was currently selecting someone for the free trim.
“I don’t make any money out of it, I just do it for the passion,” she said.
“All I ask is the pubs put me up for the night, otherwise it’s all about ‘pay it forward’ for the person getting the trim and engaging the community to come out and have fun.”
“I’m so looking forward to arriving to Cowra Railway Hotel to meet the locals, the community, the town and also a lucky person who has been ‘dobbed in’ by the others in town as a deserving recipient and who will be the focus of my visit.”
