Brothers Gruchy Exhibition Opens

Cowra Regional Art Gallery officially opened The Brothers Gruchy on Friday 14th February, a touring exhibition curated by Bundaberg Regional Galleries and toured by Museums & Galleries Queensland.
The Brothers Gruchy presents nine key artworks by acclaimed digital artists Tim and Mic Gruchy, which focus on the intersections of technological innovations with biological forms, human perception, artificial intelligence, and synaesthesia.
Brothers Tim and Mic grew up in Bundaberg and, along with being celebrated individual artists, have worked extensively together since the mid-1980s. The Brothers Gruchy features works from their collaborative explorations in the use of video, multimedia, and performative art practices.
In a technological environment characterised by hyper communication and social networks, the Brothers explore sensuous visions of an enhanced and rapidly changing world, while also considering its dissolution.
Their subject matter ranges from familial connection to great Australian rivers; from the environmental impacts of development and industry to the degradation of the decommissioned Baoshan steelworks, Shanghai, once one of the largest steelworks in the world.
Artist Tim Gruchy said it had been a privilege to have the exhibition in Bundaberg and to give back to the community and they are delighted that Bundaberg Regional galleries is partnering with Museums & Galleries Queensland to share their exhibition with audiences nationally.
“Mic and I have been very fortunate, we grew up in Bundaberg, but were very inspired by the world of art and the art teachers that were at Bundaberg High School when we were students there,” he said.
“In the work Anamnesis, I’ve taken some very old slide projectors, and I’ve used material from my family archive, our family archive, the family photos.”
Bundaberg Regional Galleries Director Rebecca McDuff said the exhibition highlighted both the individual strengths of the artists, and the power of their connected creativity. “The Brothers Gruchy celebrates the incredible artistic talent that has emerged from the Bundaberg region and is a reflection of the richness of regional arts practice,” Rebecca said. “Working with Tim and Mic Gruchy in developing this exhibition gave me a wonderful insight into their extensive digital arts practice. “The resulting exhibition is a tribute to their connectivity.”
The Brothers Gruchy is on display at Cowra Regional Art Gallery until 23 March 2025.
The Cowra Regional is located at 77 Darling Street Cowra open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm, Sunday 10am to 2pm. Admission Free. www.cowraartgallery.com.au The Brothers Gruchy is a touring exhibition curated by Bundaberg Regional Galleries.
