Construction Of $110.2 Million Cowra Hospital Redevelopment Reaches Milestone
Construction of the $110.2 million Cowra Hospital Redevelopment is moving ahead, with the completion of the first concrete pour for the project.
The concrete pour forms the foundation for the ground floor of the new building, which will include the hospital’s main entry and front of house.
The latest milestone follows significant progress on site, including the completion of the piling works and supporting caping beams which sets the structural foundation for the concrete.
When complete, the new building will provide a modern and purpose-built facility for the region and will include:
- An emergency department
- A general medical and surgery inpatient ward
- A peri-operative service
- A maternity unit with a dedicated nursery
- Ambulatory care
- A dental clinic
- Renal dialysis
- Oncology
- Community Health and Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol services
- The hospital’s first CT Scanner and Ultrasound
Through the planning and design of the project, feedback from staff and the community has informed the hospital’s two level design, as well as improved access and onsite parking, new landscaped areas and enhanced access to views from the hospital.
Community engagement continues to inform the patient and visitor experience,
alongside the Arts Working Group who are ensuring the community’s long held connection with the site is captured though the new hospital’s arts and culture initiatives.
Later this year, the project will also invite Expressions of Interest from local artists to contribute to the art and culture of the Cowra Hospital Redevelopment.
Health Infrastructure is committed to helping create new training and job opportunities throughout construction, with local trades to contribute to a range of roles on site.
Minister for Regional Health, Ryan Park, said:
“It’s exciting to see the building’s foundation taking shape with the completion of the first concrete pour and I look forward to the redevelopment progressing further.
“Our rural and regional communities, including the community of Cowra, deserve purpose-built and world class health facilities to meet their present and future needs.”
Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, said Cowra will see top-class medical treatment in the new hospital.
“New and upgraded hospitals play a crucial role in attracting and retaining medical staff. I’m equally excited that local patients will have a significantly different experience with the redeveloped Cowra Hospital. This project ultimately benefits local people – patients and staff alike,” she said.
