Cowra Art Gallery- What’s On In September

During September the Cowra Regional Art Gallery is pleased to present Living Treasures: Masters of Australian Craft\ Prue Venables an outstanding body of work by one of Australia’s greatest living artists working in clay.
A series of solo exhibitions, Living Treasures: Masters of Australian Craft honours eminent and highly respected craftspeople, celebrating their mastery of skill, their achievements, their contribution to Australian craft, and the unique place they occupy in the national design culture. Prue Venables began working with porcelain in 1977 and has devoted her time and energy to the mastery of porcelain, becoming one of Australia’s most skilled and lauded potters.
The exhibition of over 110 pieces by Prue Venables (which took over two years to produce) are refined and exquisitely beautiful in their etched shapes, delicate textures and luminosity. They possess a quiet beauty and a true mastery of porcelain. Many works explore complex and unusual approaches to working with porcelain and the significance of everyday objects through multiple sequences of forms in porcelain, with additional elements in metal and wood formed as handles, joints and other connecting pieces.
The exhibition includes an interview with the artist and behind-the-scenes footage of Prue Venables in her studio. There is also a special book about the artist and an education kit for teachers about the exhibition.
With a distinguished exhibition history Prue Venables work is collected by major institutions and public galleries and private institutions in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, UK, USA, Canada, Japan.
Exhibition dates are 21 August to 2 October
