It was the perfect start to the school holidays in Cowra on Monday, with the Cowra Information And Neighbourhood Centre staging its annual NAIDOC Week March and Fun Day in Cowra. Over 100 people turned out to the march, which started at 11am at Squire Park and ended at River Park, before progressing to the PCYC on Young Road for the Fun Day festivities.
The Fun Day featured cultural performances, workshops, goodie bags, jumping castles, tattoos, hair spraying and a range of kids activities set up by the PCYC.
Local community service providers such as Headspace, Legal Aid, Rapid Relief and Woolworths also hosted information stalls, with Rapid Relief proving a BBQ lunch.
CINC Manager Fran Stead said she was very impressed with how the day went. “I’m delighted with the turnout and the atmosphere is great,” she said.
“I’d also like to thank the Cowra PCYC for providing their space to us at the last minute [due the forecast of bad weather]
. They were there until 8pm on Sunday night setting up the equipment for the kids activities.”
Many kids were in attendance, taking advantage of the free activities in what proved to be a great start to their school holidays.
Many non-Indigenous residents also took part in the march.
