Mayor Ruth Fagan announced last Friday that Karren Cave is Cowra’s 2024 Citizen of the Year.

The announcement was made at the Australia Day Awards presentations at Cowra Civic Centre.

The Citizen of the Year Award was one of a number of Awards made on Friday morning including Community Group of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and the Dr Warren Whiley Memorial Award. Before announcing the award recipients, Cr Fagan thanked the many people who volunteered for our community and expressed her delight in recognising those extra special volunteers in our community who go above their normal daily lives and help out those in need. “Karren is a very worthy Citizen of the Year and her achievement is a reflection of her involvement with numerous community activities over many years,” Cr Fagan said.

Samuel Haeata was named Young Citizen of the Year, the Cowra Amateur Musical and Dramatic Society was named Community Group of the Year, and Jan Munday received the Dr Warren Whiley Memorial Award.

While congratulating all of the winners, Cr Fagan also commended all nominees for the awards on their significant contribution to the community over the past year and encouraged them to continue with their outstanding work for the Cowra community.

“Special mention must go to those nominated for these awards; in the eyes of the community, they are all exceptional,” Cr Fagan said. Profiles of the Australia Day Award winners for 2024 follows.
