Cowra football star Ellie Carpenter has made the day of a 12year old fan by taking time away from her Olympics preparation to have a video chat.

According to new research, a third of Aussies kids are planning to drop out of sport – so while we get excited for Paris 2024, the harsh reality is sport as we know it could dissipate if our younger generations do not participate.

To inspire the next generation to pursue their passions, local Matilda’s star Ellie Carpenter with Allianz, the soon to be announced Official Insurance Partner of Football Australia, took time out of her busy training regime to drop in to a video call, sharing some inspiring words encouraging 10 year old Ashleigh to stay in sport.

When asked by 12 year old Ashleigh how the weight of Australia feels, Carpenter said:

“Obviously having the country behind us is a great and positive thing. When we play at home we feel the crowd and coming into this Olympics, we’re not feeling the pressure we’re just going in with that underdog mindset like we did with the World Cup” .

“We’re just going to go out there and do what we do best and give it our all.”

Ellie’s effort with young Ashliegh came as Allianz committed to a new sponsorship deal with Football Australia and sharing her passion of inspiring the next generation of young footballers in Australia.

Richard Feledy, Managing Director of Allianz Australia, said; “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Football Australia, further highlighting our global commitment to sport and the incredible value it brings to the communities in which we operate. This partnership is a natural fit for us, given Allianz’s global family of stadiums and our commitment to football internationally. We believe sport promotes diversity, supports mental and physical health, and fosters a sense of unity and belonging. Through this partnership with Football Australia, we hope to inspire future generations of footballers.”
