The Fair Dinkum Mens is having another weekend on March 21 and 22 at Cowra Baptist Church.
All men are invited for a sleepover, eating, and activities. learn and meet other men to digest the blueprint of fatherhood so that we may have some idea of navigating through life (good and bad) with help to guide, teach, provide, and protect us. Perhaps with this understanding, we can give when our cups are also filled as we feel accepted.
When the word “father” is used in humanity’s dialogue, it evokes numerous emotions, experiences, and triggers linked to the role of fatherhood.
Some have positive experiences with their fathers, although never perfect.
Others have a bad to severely negative relationship with their fathers.
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.”
Whether you are the former or the latter to your kids and people, we can all agree that none of us has the correct blueprint.
Life can be tough, and men can be misunderstood and forgotten. Men can work hard to provide for their families, only to be accused of not being there for their kids. Other times, we try to express our feelings, but the delivery is over the top and deemed as anger, then labeled as abuse. The cycle of misunderstanding continues. Some men may become predators, bullies, or retreat from life, living through computer games and other forms of self-destructive mechanisms. Who can provide a good model and be there for us so that we can give to others? After all, we can’t give if our cup is empty.
We are honored to have Dr. John Best, former Wallabies doctor, as our main speaker. Dr. Best will be sharing insightful perspectives and wisdom, rooted in his extensive experiences and faith journey. We are also blessed to have testimonies from Pastor John Newton (Young Baptist) and AJ (former inmate), who will share their powerful stories of faith, love by a bigger Father and transformation.
