Cowra Shire Council has resumed fluoridation of the drinking water supply for Cowra following the fluoridation dosing system being taken out of service for upgrades in January 2023.

The Cowra water supply system includes the villages and surrounding areas of Woodstock, Noonbinna, Wattamondara, Koorawatha, Greenethorpe, Bendick Murrell and Wirrimah.

Upgrade and commissioning of the fluoridation dosing system have now been completed in consultation with NSW Health and NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

Final approval to enable the recommencement of fluoridation in accordance with the Fluoridation of Public Water Supplies Act 1957 (NSW) was granted by the NSW Chief Health Officer on 10 October 2024.

If you or your family are currently taking any fluoride supplements, if it recommended you seek dental/medical advice prior to fluoridation resumes.

For further information about water fluoridation in NSW please refer to this fact sheet from NSW Health www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/water/Factsheets/fluoridation-fact-sheet.pdf (nsw.gov.au) For more information please contact Council’s Infrastructure and Operations Division on 02 6340 2700.
