Working for our community on Council is interesting, and a privilege. I’ve done it for 13 years. I think I do it well, and I certainly do it with passion.
It requires you to be a Jill of all trades, from understanding finances, roads and sewerage, to managing community facilities like the pool and parks.
Above all – and it’s the best part of the job – you need to work with and for people.
My background in teaching and a farming enterprise gives me a deep understanding of the needs of local business, the rural sector and young people.
Council couldn’t do its work without our wonderful volunteer groups. I’m involved in a number, including the Woodstock Progress Association, Woodstock Show Society, Cowra University Centre and Seikei Student Exchange.
I represent Council on many other committees, such as the Tourism Board, Youth Council, Tidy Towns, Community Grants and the Community Development Company.
Council faces challenges including facilitating business expansion and attraction, and preparing for a low carbon economy, which necessitate innovation, effective management, and sure hands on the wheel.
I enjoy the job, work hard at it and hope for the chance to continue.
