Local Trainer Wins First Race With Roughie
Cowra trainer Michael Lynch has been around the industry for a while. A fixture on regional racing circuits, Lynch has enjoyed some success but few would compare to the five-year-old bay gelding Currawar scoring his first ever win in the Australian Hotel Maiden Plate on Sunday at Cowra Racecourse.
Paying about $34, the Shrapnel by La Belle Vitesse long shot upstaged more fancied opposition and defied his own form guide to win by about a neck from Victory with Jaywalker a further two lengths back in third. It was an exceptional ride by Ken Dunbar on one of the top weights (59kgs).
It was a big turn around from the Forbes flame out on January 2 where Currawar faded into eighth and sets up the gelding well for the rest of the year. Congratulations Mick and the team!
