Cowra Youth Council has been busy launching Look 4 Books, a brand new children’s initiative in town. The idea sprung to life when Georgie Anning discovered a ‘treasure’ from the Orange look 4 Books group. She pitched the project to the Cowra Youth Council who leapt at the idea.

The initiative see’s book ‘fairies’ hide a children’s book along with a note, at local parks around town. The surprise packages make their way as far out as Woodstock, Wattamondara and Morongla. The aim of the game is to read, enjoy and re-hide for the next child to discover.

Linda Barron from Cowra Youth Council is amazed by the positive community response.

“We had 75 members join up on the first day and are now sitting at 216 members after only 11 days”

Donated books are packaged by Youth Council members and distributed to their hiding places. “We’ve already received offers of more book donations, so I believe the initiative is only going to continue to go from strength to strength as more people learn about it.”

“It’s very rewarding to see the smiles on the children’s faces and know that we’re helping to encourage their love of reading and learning to give to others.” Linda said.

“They feel empowered to take action and make a difference in their community - one of the key outcomes Cowra Council hopes to achieve through facilitating the Cowra Youth Council.”
