THE Breakout River Meats Cowra Japan Cup has been notorious over the years for throwing up the odd surprise result but Sunday wasn’t one of them when the Kody Nestor trained 5yo Bay Gelding “What The Fuss” streaked the field by two lengths to take home the chocolates.
The Epaulette by Fuss Me Long Time galloper was ridden admirably over 1200 metres by acclaimed jockey Anthony Cavallo improving its overall record to five wins, six seconds and a third in just 22 starts! The Dubbo horse has now also broken the $100,000 prize barrier as well.
In the Cowra Lamb Cup over 1700 metres, Royal Thunder gave Blaike McDougall his second win of the day to go with a third after snaffling the Railway Hotel Maiden Handicap over 1200 metres on The Burning who held off Maggie’s Time and Butterfingers in a tight finish. While other winners on the track included Old Harbour, Wicked Willy, Currawar, Maria Elisa and Mendalong Roman in the first of the day.
After COVID decimated most events in 2020 it was great to see the Cowra Cup go ahead as planned amid an ocean of people who from all reports had a great day and were well behaved.
“It really has been a tremendous day although it always is,” said Mayor of Bathurst Bobby Bourke.
“It’s a credit to the Cowra horse racing community and the town for putting on such a great event,” he said.
“See you all in 2022!”
