Cowra Shire Council Election candidate Donna Peters says a positive vibe is very important to the growth of Cowra, and has committed to advocate for a number of ideas should she be elected to Cowra Shire Council on December 4.

Ms Peters wants the entry signs to the Cowra township updated, as well as removing graffiti, energising Macquarie Street, improving roads, installing all-ability playground equipment, and installing grates over storm water outlets to reduce rubbish contamination.

She said she would advocate for more businesses to fill empty shop spaces in Macquarie Street, and said it was important for this area to look better as it was where intrastate bus services arrived in Cowra.

“I see that Council has commenced an initial stage, but as Macquarie Street is where the buses stop, it will be an asset for the town to have this area of the CBD revamped,” she said.

While the entry signs to Cowra Shire have recently been replaced, Ms Peters said the entry signs into the town of Cowra were outdated and needed to be replaced.

Like the Macquarie Street bus stop, she said this was important, as it was what people saw as they drove into town.

“Instead of the signs having ‘2006 Friendly Town’ and ‘2002 Tidy Town’, a more positive spin could be ‘Home of the Biggest POW Breakout of WW2’ or ‘Bicycle Friendly Town’,” she said.

In line with her aim of improving the appearance of Cowra, Ms Peters said she will push for the removal of graffiti around town, and measures to prevent less rubbish entering the Lachlan River.

“A grate over the storm water outlets would help prevent rubbish entering the river following rain storms, especially drains near existing low level bridge.”

Ms Peters said she would also look at ensuring existing playground equipment in Cowra was suitable for all ability children and adults.
