Railway Hotel Supports Local Sporting Talent
Cowra’s Railway Hotel has stepped up its game in local sport this year by sponsoring various sports across the Cowra Shire.
The local pub has committed to sponsor a local speedway and dirt bike team, as well as the Cowra Magpies reserve grade team, the Cowra Magpies women’s league tag team, and the Rotary Club Golf Day, in addition to the 2021 Cowra Cup race day back in January.
It will also be the major sponsor of this year’s HD-HR Holden Nationals in June, which is expected to be a major tourist drawcard for Cowra.
Railway Hotel Publicans Kate Alberry and Ian Whitty, who took over the ownership of the pub last year, said they wanted to engage with the local community wherever they could, particularly local sport.
“We want to be known as the pub that supports local organisations in its town, and for our cus-tomers to know that they are supporting a pub that supports their community,” Kate said. The speedway and dirt bike team the Railway Hotel sponsors is known as the Railway Hotel Racing Team, and features young prodigies Cooper Freebairn, Jasper Freebairn and Corey Booth.
The team trains and competes at the Wood-stock Speedway, as well as other bike events around NSW and Australia.
Ian said it was all about supporting local talent, and helping young sports stars follow their dreams.
“Our goal is to help get them to the Fink De-sert Race near Alice Springs next year, which is considered as one of the peak bike racing events in Australia,” he said.
Ian said the team had already made a number of achievements, and there was a real chance the three boys could turn their talent into a career.
Meanwhile, the Railway Hotel will be starting Friday night raffles, and they’re seeking interested not-for-profit community groups to participate.
