Refurbished Island Bar Unveiled
The Cowra Showground Trust has officially opened its renovated ‘Island Bar’ at the Cowra Showground, after spending $60,000 on it courtesy of a NSW Government grant.
The bar was renovated to meet modern health standards, including the installation of a ceiling, lights, hot water and a preparation area.
The building is primarily used as a canteen facility during outdoor events at the Showground, such as markets or the Cowra Show. The funding was previously awarded to the Showground Trust under the NSW Crown Lands Improvement Fund, with works completed recently.
The grand opening last Wednesday was held to showcase the upgraded facility to user bodies and the community, to encourage its use.
Land and Project Manager Ruth Fagan said this was one part of a plan to eventually upgrade all of the Showground’s facilities.
“Previously the stables, toilets, camp ground, turnstile gates, care-taker’s cottage, electricals and Pony Club amenities have been replaced or refurbished,” she said.
Chair of the Land Managers, Chris Meiklejohn, thanked the builders for retaining the historical aspects of the bar, such as the shuttered windows, while modernising the interior.
The Land Managers are encouraging anyone who would like to use the bar for markets, field days, weddings or parties to contact them. The Bar will be open for this year’s Cowra Show.
