Up to 10,000 homes and businesses in the Riverina will gain access to a full-fibre NBN connection under a $3 billion equity injection to be delivered by a reelected Albanese Labor government.
Families and businesses in Riverina will be able to upgrade to the higher speeds and more reliable network as part of the government’s commitment to the broadband needed for Australia’s future.
The expanded access to full-fibre NBN upgrades is part of Labor’s economic plan to make sure regional areas get access to the same full-speed network available in capital cities, while finishing the upgrade of remaining copper connections.
Under the plan, approximately 10,000 homes and businesses in Riverina will get access to world class full-fibre upgrades.
This will benefit families and small businesses across the entire Riverina electorate.
This is in addition to the 45,000 premises in Riverina already able to access higher speed broadband this year under the Albanese Government’s fibre upgrade program.
All up, about 98.5% per cent of premises in the Riverina’s fixed line footprint will be able to get speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second once all upgrades are complete.
Riverina Labor candidate, Mark Jeffreson, said only Labor is committed to delivering a better NBN, and making sure that all Australians, can access high-quality broadband, and only the Albanese Government will deliver this upgrade while keeping the NBN in public hands.
“The NBN is vital infrastructure, and the only way to ensure all Australians are connected to cutting-edge, high-speed, reliable internet is through the re-election of a Labor Governmen,” he said.
“This is real regional investment under Labor, with up to 10,000 premises set to be upgraded, and almost 100% of the electorates fixed-line connections to be high speed fibre by 2030.”
