Cowra Hospital Auxiliary News
In the last financial year the Auxiliary donated $19,739.57 to Cowra Hospital. This also includes Vital Signs monitor for District nurses, digital measuring stations for Aboriginal Health, a portable oxygen cylinder trolley and 5 over bed tables. Previously we donated surgical instruments for cataract surgery so patients can have their operations in Cowra so taking away travelling out of town. Our next donations are support aids and pads for theatre, also modular medical unit for women’s health and support for speech pathology with assessment tools and resources for pre school children to help with language and speech sounds. We like to donate to various sections of the hospital, especially where medical equipment is most needed and will be utilised. Our aim is to prioritise our donations for patients care and wellbeing. This would not be possible without the support from Cowra and District Community, we thank them for their generous support of our organisation to enable us to donate vital medical equipment to Cowra Hospital.
Cowra Health Service News
Cowra Health Service Operating Theatres has recently been able to provide a Urology surgery service with Clair Whelan Consultant Urological Surgeon, joining the service as a visiting medical officer. The establishment of a urology surgery service is ground breaking for our health service and the Cowra Com-munity as many procedures have never been performed here before. Surgical Services would not have been able to progress to this extent without the crucial support of the Cowra Hospital Auxiliary. The Auxiliary have generously provided funding to purchase vital equipment to enable this specialised surgery to be available to the community.
This equipment includes Urethroscope sheaths, sterilising trays and an AMBU aView 2 Advance monitor. Using these tools a surgeon is able to investigate, diagnose and treat a variety of conditions including Urinary incontinence, bladder and prostate cancer, bladder stones, blockages in the urinary tract, enlarged prostate, and recurring urinary tract infections.
Currently the urology lists are planned for 8 occasions over 12 months, with the anticipation of increasing the service in the future.
