Last Saturday and Sunday Cowra was rocked by a quick shift in weather as storms that appeared to catch us all by surprise caused a wave of damage.

The heavy down pour complete with claps of thunder and lightning left a trail of destruction as it swept across town. Rain water flooded streets, backyards and some ovals catching many residents off guard. Businesses were affected as water pooled beneath the doors into workshops and offices leaving owners with a messy cleanup to begin the week with.

Lightening proved just how dangerous it can be after striking a tree behind the Cowra Swimming Pool causing it to explode into pieces.

Some residents were without power for a lengthy stint after blackouts plagued sections of Cowra.

Locals took to social media to prove just how light hearted Cowra can be, shining the spotlight on our towns unique talent in seeing the humour in heavy situations. Cowra received just under 40mm of rain in total across the weekend, with 90% humidity creating uncomfortable conditions.
