CBD FOCUS: CBD Chairperson, Cr Sharon D’Elboux and business owner Ashlea Field are both involved with the CBD committee that was formed to reinvigorate the Cowra CBD.

The Cowra CBD Committee celebrated a successful meeting last week, marking the third gathering of the dedicated group. The committee, chaired by Cowra Shire Councillor Sharon D’Elboux, has been actively working towards revitalising the Cowra Central Business District (CBD) and fostering community engagement.

During this week’s Council meeting, Councillor D’Elboux provided an update on the progress made by the committee. Among the key highlights were the upcoming council report, the expected release of Expressions of Interest/Requests for Quotation (EOI/RFQ) with a closing date set for December 7, and the confirmation of a workshop to be held in February 2024.

“At the October meeting, the committee resolved to recommend Council conduct an RFQ process to engage a consultant in developing a CBD Activation Strategy. This aligns with the direction identified in Council’s planning documents, including the Community Strategic Plan, current Delivery and Operational Plans, as well as the Regional Economic Development Strategy,” stated Councillor D’Elboux.

The RFQ process, which aims to attract a qualified consultant, will open shortly, with a closing date of December 7. Councillor D’Elboux expressed hope in finding the right candidate to contribute to the development of the CBD Activation Strategy.

Local business owner and CBD representative, Ashlea Field, shared her enthusiasm for the progress made by the committee. She emphasised the importance of the common goals and direction shared by committee members and their dedication to improving the CBD.

“I’m really excited with the progress being made on the committee! We are all collectively there for the same purpose because we are all passionate about putting our best foot forward to investigate possible ways to improve our CBD,” said Ms. Field.

Ms. Field also highlighted the upcoming workshop in February, inviting both business and community members to actively participate in shaping the future of the CBD. She expressed confidence that the input received from the broader community would be crucial to the committee’s success.

“There really is a bright future here in Cowra for business, and I have no doubt we can activate the potential in our CBD!” concluded Ms. Field.

As the Cowra CBD Committee continues its efforts, the community is encouraged to stay engaged and contribute to the ongoing discussions about the future of Cowra’s Central Business District.
