The 2023 edition of the Makers Film Festival (MFF), an international showcase of craft makers and making in a jam-packed programme of 17 short films over 90 minutes (with an interval), is proudly presented by the Cowra Regional Art Gallery.
This year’s short film festival features a wide range of craft disciplines and story-telling techniques. The programme features a remarkable range of movies, from classics like Tjanpi Desert Weavers to a sweet look at Kazakhstani craftsmanship.
A beautiful examination of making, including textiles, baskets, pottery, glass, jewellery, and more, is revealed through interviews, documentaries, and stop-motion animations.
It’s not necessary to be a “maker” to appreciate these movies. As connections, creativity, the power of the hand, tactility, and our most fundamental human impulse to mould materials are major themes in the stories. There is a lot to motivate you, ranging from just 60 seconds to 9 minutes. Don’t miss this fascinating collection of movies made by skilled craftspeople, filmmakers, and artisans. The Cowra Regional Art Gallery is hosting this distinctive short film festival as part of their Art After Dark series.
