Town Art & Recreation A Focus For Peters
Cowra Shire Council 2021 election candidate Donna Peters says she’d like to see more public art installations in Cowra, ahead of the upcoming election on December 4.
Mrs Peters acknowledged there was already an impressive display of First Nations art on the pylons of Cowra Bridge, visible from the low level bridge and this art was very popular with visitors to Cowra.
Mrs Peters believes there is more opportunity for improvements around the low level bridge area and wants to raise this with like-minded councillors should she be elected on December 4.
“Local residents have approached me saying they’d like to have the beach area increased so more people can swim and fish in the area. Maintaining the low level bridge as a weir and a crossover for pedestrians and cyclists has also been raised with me,” she said.
“A new medium level bridge would be available to motor vehicle traffic instead.” Graffiti around the shire is an issue that Mrs Peters would like to see the incoming councillors tackle if Cowra was to consider itself a tidy town.
“Some of the graffiti close to town is thirty years old and it’s time it went,” she said. Switching the focus to local water, Mrs Peters said she would advocate for issues that residents have raised con-cerns about.
She said there is a large drain between the riverbank and North Logan Road that needs attention as the overgrowth is about 1.8m in height and is now also a fire hazard. Ms Peters said she would also like to investigate access to potable water for Billimari residents.
“I would also look forward to discussions as to what viable, cost efficient alternatives are available for the proposed sewerage for West Cowra” she said.
