Cowra’s Tresillian Centre was officially opened last Wednesday afternoon by Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke and Tresillian CEO Rob Mills at a ceremony at its Ina Drive facility.

The centre has now been operating for over a year, having been made possible by funding from the NSW Government as part of its 2021-22 budget.

The centre, officially titled Tresillian in Western Family Day Centre, Cowra, is currently classed as a secondary level Tresillian facility, offering day services to support families with newborn babies.

However, Cowra’s new hospital, which is due to be completed in 2025, will include two beds for Tresillian, meaning that the Cowra centre will be upgraded to a ‘tertiary’ level facility that is able to conduct overnight stays and support parents with their newborn babies during the night. Support services at the current centre include baby settling, one-on-one training with parents, baby feeding techniques, and mental health support for parents, all provided by Tresillian’s nurses. Mr Mills said the centre had been a huge success to date.

“We’ve received a very warm welcome in Regional NSW, as regional people need this support, whether it’s for little or hard issues,” he said. “It’s great to be able to support families here in Cowra.”

Mr Mills said the Tresillian beds at the new Cowra Hospital would be the first in NSW west of the Great Dividing Range. “If parents need to use our day services more than three times, we recommend they use our overnight services and stay in a bed,” he said.

“At the moment they have to travel to Sydney or Canberra to do this, but soon they will be able to do so right here in Cowra.”
