Cowra Shire will benefit from the 2021 Federal Government Budget after being allocated a further $1,830,904 in direct funding for infrastructure projects under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
The funding under phase 3 will be available from 31/01/2022, with Council required to submit a list of desired projects it would like approved by this date.
Council had already received $915,452 under phase 1 of the program, and $945,274 under phase 2.
Some of the projects which have been delivered or will be done under the first phase of this program include the upgrade of the Cowra Airport entrance road (Richards Drive), the creation of an entrance gateway with landscaping and sealing of the existing taxiway, replacing the Waugoola House roof tiles with a Colourbond roof, replacing roof, ceiling and other building renovation works at the Cowra Visitors’ Centre and the upgrade of lighting, sound, audiovisual and cinema equipment within the Cowra Civic Centre.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development and Riverina MP Michael McCormack said it was important to continue to build our way to recovery through job creation and infrastructure projects at a local level.
“A broader range of projects will now be eligible for funding under the LRCI, enabling local governments to pursue larger, more complex developments to deliver even greater benefits for their communities.
Mr McCormack said more than 5,000 projects had already been nominated under the first two phases of the LRCI program with more than 2,000 projects complete or under construction.
“Our funding boost is helping communities across Australia accelerate priority projects to get people into jobs and stimulate our economy,”
