Aussies around the country are lacing up their joggers and hitting the pavement for a good cause.
‘K’s For Kids’ is encouraging people to take on the challenge and walk 60km during March to raise money for research into genetic diseases and childhood cancers.
The list of Cowra locals joining the fund raising is growing as they gain the support and donations from the community behind them.
“There are so many great causes out there but this one really stuck as I have 4 kids,” local participant Fiona Eade said. “Raising money for research for over 6000 kids illnesses seemed like a good choice. There are so many families out there that need help and this can give them a bit of hope that the money will be put to researching for cures and breakthroughs for these illnesses.”
The aim of the game is to log the kilometres walked over the month and encourage friends and family to donate to this terrific cause.
While Fiona has already reached the goal of 60kms she is pushing on to see just how many she can do as she not only raises vital funds for research, but also reaps the health benefits.
“It’s a great motivator to get and walk each morning, I’ve lost 21kg in 14 weeks and walking for a cause helps me push through on mornings that I don’t really feel like it,” she said.
Every little bit helps researchers to move that step closer to medical break through’s that could save the lives of children living with childhood cancers and genetic diseases.
If you want to support Fiona there is a link set up on her Facebook page, or you can register yourself and hit the footpath to raise money for a very deserving cause.
