Wet Weather Causes Disruptions For Local Sport

While many sporting groups are still wrangling with Covid restrictions, mother nature took matters into her own hands over the weekend with many fields and courts being abandoned following the constant rain wreaking havoc on the playing conditions. Cowra Netball Association called off their games on Saturday as did Junior Rugby League, Cowra Hockey and Cowra Junior Soccer Club, with a majority of them citing safety concerns for the players.

Not all players were given a snow day, with some Cowra teams braving the elements and traveling to the likes of Orange and Lithgow to battle it out in the Antarctic temperatures, however, it resulted in some games being called off at half time due to the elements.

Junior Rugby Union players still hit the field in Canowindra on Sunday resulting in some larger than life muddy smiles at the end of the day, and more mud on themselves than left on the field. AFL battled against the elements to play and Senior Magpie teams shook it off to play in Bathurst.

While sighs and complaints could be heard across Cowra on Saturday morning from junior players whose games were cancelled, a large sigh of relief came from many parents who were spared from chattering teeth and shivering bones on the sidelines.

With the wet weather forecasted well into next week, be sure to check with your local clubs for updates regarding this weekend’s games.
