Youth Council Turns 10
A decade of memories and a decade of difference is what was celebrated by the Cowra Youth Council last weekend, as it commemorated its 10th anniversary at the Cowra Bowling Club.
The night was a culmination of the past 10 years, celebrating its accomplishments and each other.
Past and current Youth Councillors were invited, as well as their families. Past Chairperson Georgia Lewis (2019) and Stassi Austin (2020) enthralled the crowd with their personal memories and group achievements from their years as Chair. The room was decorated in the CYC signature purple, with flowers from the Cowra Flower Co, specially designed cookies and cake from Lynch’s Cookie Co and a fantastic cake topper from Rapt in Gifts. Ms Austin, who has been a Youth councillor since 2017 and the equal longest serving Youth councillor along with Lily Wright, said she had seen a number of significant achievements by the Youth Council over the years.
“Personally I have been involved in creating the anti-bullying project called #projectupstander with the CYC and peak body Youth Action NSW. This project focuses on those who have witnessed bullying and encourages them to turn into upstanders who will stand up and say that what they have seen is wrong,” she said.
“The CYC was instrumental in implementing the Cowra Premiere Cinema and held many screenings until the Cowra Civic Centre took over its operation.”
“The 2022 CYC welcomes the relocation of Headspace and is looking forward to developing a great partnership.”
Ms Austin said the CYC was looking forward to its upcoming usual commitments of celebrating NSW Youth Week and it’s theme “It’s up to YOUth”, sponsoring Louis Gough as its representative for the FOIU and helping him to fund raise for his charity of choice, and hosting its Youth Forum for World Peace Day.
